Hakuna Matata

Kiting in Watamu

Kenia_Website51

Kitesurfing in Kenya - sounds exotic - it is, and a little secret on top of that. Our secret kite spot is located north of Mombasa, called Watamu. You have never heard of it? This is exactly what is sensational about it. An empty kite spot with a luxurious holiday home. That sounds fantastic and is much more than that.

In Watamu you will find a long white sandy beach, reliable thermal sideshore wind and hardly any other kitesurfers. Kenya also offers the Hakuna Matata lifestyle. In addition to the perfect kite session, with constant wind in a bikini or board shorts, there is a lot to discover. We have one thing above all: time.

Reliable thermal wind

Spot & wind

In addition to warm temperatures and thus kitesurfing without neoprene in the Indian Ocean, Kenya also offers a reliable and constant sideshore wind. In Watamu you will find a white sandy beach that stretches for several kilometers offering enough space for many kiters. But don't worry, there won't be many other kitesurfers nearby.

During breakfast you will notice the leaves starting to move in the wind, because in the course of the morning the constant wind sets in and accompanies you until sunset. You will usually fly kites between ten and twelve square meters.

Due to the tides, Watamu is a spot with many faces and each of them has its own peculiarity. Sensational downwind trips are also possible. We just have to decide how many kilometers we want to kite with the wind.

amazed when the gate opens

Accommodation

Near the city of Watamu we have an extremely beautiful facility, which is reserved only for us. If the gate opens and you enter it you will not be able to get out of amazement. We promise you!

In addition to six large double rooms and two dorm rooms (dormitory), you will find a huge pool, a large dining area and an incredibly cozy seating area. It's perfect for relaxing after extended kite sessions. Frankly, we don't want to give away too much, because the pictures of the accommodation speak for themselves.

From the mansion, you can walk to the nearby kite beach and enjoy the day near a resort. This means that you can also act flexibly and run back quickly if you have forgotten something.

fun even for non-kiters

Activities

We offer plenty of additional activities for non-kiters and kite-lazy people. Or simply as an alternative if the sore muscles are too intense or if there is a lull after all.

Detailed information on the Kitecamp in Watamu

We have been traveling to Kenya ourselves and with groups for years and are very familiar with both traveling to and in the country and kiting at the spot.

We have briefly summarized all the useful information for you.

In Kenya you will find enough space for many kiters, but there are none. Usually it is only us and two or three other people on the water. Thanks to the reliable thermals, you can prepare for many wind days. We will mainly have wind for ten to twelve square meter kites. Of course we also needed smaller and bigger kites in the past.

Due to the sideshore wind we will mainly stay at the kite station, where we have also stored our equipment and can use the infrastructure. In Watamu you can of course freely organize your time. We definitely don't have stress, we have a lot of time.

We take care of your progress in joint kite sessions and will improve your skills. If you want to ride a waveboard or foil, we make it possible for you.

Occasionally, waves can be found on the reef when the conditions work together perfectly.

Downwinders are also planned. Here we just have to decide how long we want to ride with the wind. We take care of your progress and safety and have fun on the water.

Equipment rental:

If you do not have your own or not the right kite equipment, you can rent it from us. We always have the right kites and boards for you. Everything is possible with us.

Kites plus bar and board: € 550 .- / two weeks

Kites for strong or very light wind: € 280 .- / two weeks

Kiteboard, foil or waveboard: € 50 .- / week

Training:

If you want to improve your skills in Kenya or know exactly which trick you are stuck with, we will be happy to help you. Kitefoil trainings are also possible.

Price: € 79 .- / training excl. Material

In the meantime we look back on more than 15 years of training experience in kitesurfing. We are constantly evolving and revising our training concepts and have already trained a number of kite instructors in our kite careers. In a nutshell: We just have fun!

We have many approaches on how to improve your skills on the water and on the kite because everyone learns differently and needs different inputs. In this respect, we see our strength, in addition to high-quality kite lessons, also in empathy and working together on a very personal level. We pick you up where you need it.

We also see things that others do not see. We love the detailed work and help you to have more fun and more safety on the water - just with a few small changes.

We use radio systems from BBTalking for our kitecamps and kite courses. We don't like screaming - we'd rather whisper something in your ear. In addition, there are planned video analyses in the evening - even with a projector if everything works out as planned.

For you, this means that an event with LakeUnited always has an educational character. If you do not need any training, we will find a solution for this too.

As soon as the gate opens, the luxurious mansion will impress you. The property has a beautiful landscaped tropical garden, a large swimming pool and a cozy area to relax.

The six double rooms with king-size beds are spacious and furnished with great attention to detail. In every room you will find your own beautiful bathroom. You can also book a bed in the dorm rooms. These are a little cheaper because you can share the room with other participants. This option also has a great African flair. In addition, of course, all beds are included Mosquito nets. A Room maids come by every day to prepare the rooms and set up the mosquito net in the evening. You can also have your laundry washed at no extra charge.

You don't have to take care of your physical well-being in Kenya, because there is our cook named Durango, who is with us for years already. He provides you with breakfast and dinner. Every day starts with a healthy breakfast together. There is homemade granola with fresh and juicy fruits, eggs in different variations and deliciously ripe avocados.

During the day you can get something to drink right on the kite beach at the surrounding bars and restaurants and buy a lunch snack or a delicious Italian ice cream.

Dinner at our mansion is varied. There is everything from vegetarian dishes to meat or fish.

In the city of Watamu (five minutes by moped or tuk tuk) there are some good restaurants and bars where you can eat and drink well. With a lot of Italian influence, you are well looked after here in very beautiful places.

The destination of the trip is Mombasa. Turkish and Ethiopian Airlines fly relatively quickly from Vienna with a stopover. Tip from us: At Ethiopian Airlines sports baggage with 23 kilograms is included. You can register for Turkish Airlines sports baggage with 32 kilograms for about € 50 each way. No matter how you get to Mombasa, we will definitely pick you up from the airport.

Flight cost: app. € 550.- to € 800.-

Offer for flights: We would be happy to send you an offer from our cooperation partner so that you don't have to worry about anything.

Visa: The Kenyan visa should be applied for in advance. We would be happy to send you the link here.

Transfer to the mansion: We organize a transfer to your accommodation and back again. This is already included in the price.

Money: Official currency in Kenya is the Kenyan shilling. If you want you can change a small amount at the airport. However, we advise you not to change a larger amount there, because there is an opportunity for a better course in Watamu. You can also withdraw money with your credit card in the city.

Visa: A visa is mandatory for your entry into Kenya. You can apply online in advance and it costs around € 55.-

Passport: Your passport must be valid for six months upon entry.

Vaccinations: There is no mandatory vaccination for Kenya. However, it is advisable to contact your doctor or the tropical institute in advance and to consult.

Malaria: We recommend extensive insect protection. However, everyone has to decide for themselves whether to take malaria medication prophylactically. It is best to clarify here with the tropical institute and your doctor.

Internet: There is wifi in the mansion and at the kite center. If you need internet anytime and anywhere, you can of course get your own SIM card,

Travel insurance: We would be happy to send you a personal offer for your trip. Just get in touch with us and we will be happy to help you.

Safari: We can organize a safari for you and other participants on site. We recommend a two-day tour of the Tsavo East National Park with an overnight stay in a lodge. Of course you can also stay longer on safari or start or end your vacation with a tour.
