Snowkiting in Romania

Flysurfer Peak mit Schneelandschaft

On our snowkite trip to the Romanian Carpathians you will find snowkiting conditions that are otherwise only known from Norway.

At over 2,000 meters above sea level there are wide open plains, the finest powder and unspoiled nature. The price-performance ratio is sensational, since the exchange rate is better than it has been for a long time!

Snowkiting in Romania means a week of concentrated outdoor action in the mountains.

Together we explore the endless expanses of Romania. The terrain of the high plateau and is spacious and flat, without any obstacles that invite you to cruise.

Our snowkitecamp in Romania in February offers perfect conditions for both beginners and advanced snowkiters.

Powder and constant wind

Spot & wind Romania

Our kite spot is located in a ski area in the Romanian Carpathians. A vast high plateau spreads out at over 2,000 meters above sea level. Due to the height, we are snow and windproof up there. Furthermore, thanks to the width of the area, we can kite all wind directions. Sometimes there can be too much wind. If this happens, the lift operation is stopped and the gondola to the mountain station is blocked. This happens once in every camp and then we make a trip as a replacement program. Normally you can kite on four out of seven days, often even much more.

There is also an alien base at our snow kite spot. Don't worry they are very nice 😉 Google 'Bugeci Mountain Ufo' top find out more about it.

Accommodation in Romania

Our hotel is located directly at the midway station at 1,400 meters above sea level with a sensational view of the Carpathian Mountains. After snow kiting you can ski directly to the accommodation on the slopes. You can't expect a European luxury resort now, but it's very good for Romanian standards. It is clean and you sleep well. But this could also be due to the many snow kiting. The hotel also has a sauna and you can book a massage for € 5.

Activities snowkitecamp Romania

For the trip to Kronstadt (Brasov) we choose the day with the worst wind forecast. Our driver takes us directly to the famous Dracula Bran Castle. There we will take a tour, visit the torture chambers and go shopping at the market. In the afternoon we continue to Kronstadt, which is very reminiscent of old Vienna. You can still see German lettering on many shop facades and the language German is also taught at school. After a coffee in the baroque Times Bar, we head to the famous city cellar, where, accompanied by traditional music, we fill our bellies: steak, beef tartare, slivovitz etc. Don't worry, for vegetarians there are also plenty of options.

Detailed information on the Snowkitecamp in Romania

We have been traveling to Romania again and again for over ten years because of the great snowkiting conditions there. We like the honest, interesting people and that we still get a lot for our money.

We have briefly summarized all the useful information for you.

What does a day look like at the snowkitecamp?

At 8:30 we meet for breakfast in the hotel's restaurant and at 10:00 we take the gondola up to the summit. The good thing is that we are only three minutes away from the lift station. On the other side of the summit is the snow kite plateau and the ski area. This is, where we go snow kiting together and explore the area.

If you want to take a break or have a bite to eat, you can go straight to the H2O Bar. it is just around the corner from our kite spot and the operators are kiters themselves. You will be surprised by the hospitality of the Romanians! They offered us not only once that we should simply stay with them in the bar over night. The owners are happy to shout drinks or organize a snow cat taxi in case we missed the last chance to go by lift. It's amazing how easy everything is there.

At 4:00 p.m. we have to take the last lift up to be able to drive back to the hotel on the other side of the mountain via the slopes.

Then we relax in the sauna and have dinner together in the hotel restaurant. It is really difficult to spend more than € 15 per evening. We end the evening in the hotel lounge with its own bar, where Janina provides us with a cocktail or two.

The kitecamp in Romania includes the kite course. There you can start snow kiting yourself as an absolute beginner. Since you have a lot of space and accumulate a lot of practice time within the week, you will make great progress during this time because you can focus well on practicing. In Austria you would probably need two years or more to get the same practice time as in Romania.

It definitely makes sense to use our kite material, because then you are always well equipped for all conditions. So if you do not have your own or not the appropriate equipment, you are welcome to rent it from us. Flysurfer specializes in foil kites and you can't go wrong with that.

Flysurfer – Peak  €270,- /Woche

Flysurfer  – Soul €360,- /Woche

You only need to bring skis or a snowboard and a helmet.

Solltest du ein Snowboard mieten wollen : €120,- /Woche

Change money:

You do not need to change money in advance, because you can withdraw it at the ATM in Bucharest. You can also change cash again at a very good rate on the trip to Dracula Castle in Bran.

Internet:

We have wifi in the hotel. For mobile internet you can use your EU roaming units at no additional cost.

Ski area:

We are in a ski area that has been modernized in recent years and is now equipped with brand new lifts from Austria. We usually buy a points card for € 45.-. That's enough for the whole week! As said, you really get a lot for your money.

Since we are very high, it may be that the lift operation is stopped in the event of a storm and we have to pause on this day. If this happens, we usually go on a trip to Dracula Castle or we go walking or try touring skis. If you have touring equipment, take it with you!

Travel insurance:

We would be happy to send you an offer for your trip.

The family-run hotel was still built by the Communists at that time and is accordingly large and oversized.

It is clean, you sleep well and considering that you are sleeping in a ski area in the middle of the mountains for this price, the price-performance ratio is excellent. It is located directly at the midway station of the ski area and can also be reached by road. After all these years in Romania, we know everyone there personally, which has often been very helpful. There is a sauna, a lounge with a bar (where we mostly stay), a table tennis and billiard room. A masseur also comes to the hotel at weekends.

Preise:
Triple room app. € 12.- per person including breakfast

Double room app. € 20.- per person including breakfast

Single room app. € 23.- per person including breakfast

We go by plane in the morning (1h 50 min) from Vienna to Bucharest. We recommend flying with Austrian Airlines or Lufthansa because you can still take your ski luggage with you free of charge. For this it is important to choose the Economy Classic tariff. Bucharest can also be reached very cheaply from many other airports.

Our driver picks us up from the airport in a minibus and takes us up to the Romanian Carpathians in two hours.

Flight cost: app. € 130.-
