Snowkite Outdoor Camp in Norway

Olsen kitet mit Skiern und Foilkite in Norwegen und blickt in die Kamera

We set up our tents on a high plateau on the edge of a national park in the middle of Norway near Haugastøl. From there we undertake tours into the hinterland, equipped with the best currently available expedition equipment and powered by our kites.

Endless snow landscapes, for miles around not a soul - a dream for all snowkiters who want to breathe a bit of expedition air. For one week we kite and camp where research teams usually train for their expeditions to the North and South Pole. But: In combination with well-deserved holiday luxury.

Come with us to Norway and discover the magic of the north!

Ultimately, our camp is so luxurious that we renamed it from 'Expedition' to 'Outdoor camp' to reflect its one -of-a-kind program.

In the base camp, a spacious community tent with a stove, usually well over 25 degrees, awaits us, where we can spend cozy evenings - with fresh fruit and a glass of red wine in hand. Apart from that, physical well-being is also taken care of with food suitable for the outdoors. In addition, you will receive a four-man tent (for two people), a cozy sleeping bag and down-filled mats, and also a GPS tracker and a pulka to carry the material with you.

Dream conditions

Endless snowy landscapes just for us alone. What connects us? Our passion and a GPS tracker.

Camping Deluxe

Nachdem wir in der Eiswüste Norwegens sind, wäre "Glamping" übertrieben, aber "All Inclusive Glexpedition" könnte passen 😉

1000 km Kiting

With so much space, you'll be amazed at how many kilometers you can cover and what's there to be discovered!

Small group

The group has a cosy size but still large enough to allow individual retreat

In springtime, the conditions in Norway are ideal: Snow as far as the eye can see, the sun is already stronger, snowstorms are rare and the temperatures are no longer that bitterly cold.

Camp-Equipment

We provide complete, best quality equipment. Four-man tents with two-person occupancy, winter sleeping bags, down-filled mats, GPS trackers, pulka with cover, expedition menus and everything else you need to survive. Plus a pinch of luxury in a huge community tent.

Location

We set off from the high plateau near Haugastøl and set up our tents somewhere in the Norwegian landscape. From there we explore the area for six days, kiting from one perfect snowkiting spot to the next. We provide guiding and take care of your safety.

Snowkites

Foil kites are a must on our expedition. We recommend one of our Flysurfer packages (Peak or Soul), so you are equipped for all cases. Flysurfer is specialized in foil kites, which are fantastic for snowkiting, are easy to pack and can be transported on the pulka perfectly.

Powder & endless landscapes

Spot & wind in Norway

The “Hardanggervidda” plateau is approximately three hours away from Oslo. With its flat lakes and gentle hills / mountains it is the largest high plateau in Europe. In winter it is a huge playground for snow kiting. The Star Wars film "The Empire Strikes Back" was also shot there! With the kite you could then go all day in one direction without even having to turn around. Great right?

The weather changes relatively often due to the plateau's weather divide. But that's a good thing because we are always supplied with fresh powder. And you don't have to worry about the wind anyway. They are very local weather systems that we know perfectly after ten years of experience.

The perfect snowkiting spot

Your snowkite outdoor experience

We meet directly in Haugastøl, which is easily accessible from Oslo by (rental) car. From there we drive together to the highest point of the nearby high plateau, where we load our pulkas with equipment and begin our way into the fantastic snowy landscape of Norway.

Our Requirements

Kite skills and weather conditions

In order to be able to take part in the expedition, you must be able to kite safely on the snow. You also need touring skis, poles and a suitable (snowkite) outfit including harness and helmet.

An important factor in an outdoor camp is of course the weather. During extreme storms or due to a possible road closure due to snowdrifts, we may need to be flexible in adjusting the plan. Your safety comes first.

We are prepared and have alternatives at hand. Important: If additional costs arise in this case, these are not included in the package price. What could that be? There is a snowstorm and the road to civilization is closed. In this case we might book a hotel in Haugastol, for example, and snowkite in lower areas until the weather allows for a safe start.

Detailed information about the Snowkite Outdoor Camp in Norway

We have been traveling to Norway ourselves and with groups for years and are very familiar with both traveling to and in the country and snowkiting at various spots.

We have briefly summarized all the useful information for you.

It definitely makes sense to use our kites, so that you are always well equipped for all conditions. If you do not have your own or not the appropriate equipment, you are welcome to rent from us. Flysurfer specializes in foil kites and you can't go wrong with that.

Please note that you need touring skis and suitable shoes, a helmet and sticks for the expedition.

We provide the complete outdoor equipment. In our basecamp there is a group tent with a stove for cozy evenings, four-man tents with two-person occupancy or one-man tents for with cozy winter sleeping bags and down-filled mats. You will also be equipped with a GPS tracker and a double pulka with a cover.

In addition, we take care of cooking facilities, gas, electricity and the necessary security (our bus is within reach for emergencies).

We recommend booking our catering package. When booking, you can optionally order your meals, consisting of breakfast and two warm meals in the form of expedition menus.

Your outdoor menus will be delivered to you in advance. On top you will receive a test meal so that you can do a tasting in advance and familiarize yourself with the preparation. Vegetarian and meat options are available.

The package costs € 100. If you were to buy from a retailer, you would have to calculate costs of around €200.

If you have special needs, you can of course bring your own food (must be food, which can only be heated with water directly in the bag!).

On the last evening there is of course the legendary gala buffet final dinner in the Snowkite Hotel.

Arrival is via Oslo. We recommend a flight to Oslo and the subsequent onward journey by rental car to Haugastøl. We coordinate car pools with you so that you can get from the airport to the meeting point in Haugastøl as quickly and cheaply as possible.

If you choose the Economy Classic tariff at Austrian, the ski luggage is included free of charge. Then you can take 8kg hand luggage, 23kg normal luggage and 23kg ski luggage. Sometimes one or the other kite slips into our ski luggage.

Flight cost: app. EUR 200.-

Due to extreme weather conditions, we may have to cancel the camp for safety reasons or switch to plan B.

Any additional costs resulting from this are not included in the package price and must be paid by the participants themselves.

Money: You don't need to change money in advance. We always withdraw money directly at the airport in Oslo, because you get the best exchange rate. In general, you can pay almost anything up there in Norway with your credit card. Even in the smallest café in the middle of nowhere.

Internet: Norway is in the EU roaming zone. That means you can use your mobile internet as normal and consume your free units.

We would be happy to send you an offer for cancellation and / or travel insurance.
